TULUM; Fit + Healthy Guide to Mexico

Oh Tulum, you were beautiful. A direct flight from London to Cancun and a 2 hour drive means this place is the new (well actually not that new I’m sure) hot spot for a beachy getaway and cheap margaritas on the beach. IMG_2446

To see

Chitchen Itza; Located about an hour or so out of Tulum, grab yourself a driver or small private tour and visit this Mayan historic beauty. The pyramid and it’s stories are amazing.

Valladolid; Just near Chitchen Itza this town is just pure Mexico local style at its finest. Beautiful streets and architecture it’s a perfect stop over on your way to explore the Yucatan Peninsular.

Cenotes (underground rock pools); Also near by the above two these underground natural water pools are just wow. You have to see it to believe it. Take your bathers and go for a swim in these natural caves. We also stopped on the side of the road at a local eatery. These adorable local women were making tortillas by hand and cooking them on the fire.

Mayan Ruins at Tulum; Up the north of the beach of Tulum there are temples and ruins from the Mayans which have been restored and you can pay to walk around. If you are going to Chitchen Itza then I wouldn’t stress this but the views of the ocean are stunning.

To stay

Kasa Hotel + Residences;  Located in Aldea Zama half way between the beach and the main town this is the perfect location to stay. https://www.kasatulum.com/ This hotel was awesome. It was brand new so a few teething issues but it was perfect for our family of 5. Slightly on the pricey side but nothing compared to the beach front accommodation.

To do/Eat

Hire Bikes or borrow from hotel and ride along the beach front. Plenty of places to stop and explore. Smoothies and yoga galore.

Ahau Beach club; like an all exclusive club but for everyone!!! MUST GO. It’s not cheap but the most insane spot for cocktails, aperol spritz heaven and some nibbles with your toes in the sand.

De Lielo Bistro Tropical; in the main town, stop for green juice or some coconut pancakes. Everything is gluten and sugar free. When you’re travelling its nice to get alllll the greens into you with some added chia seeds and spirulina

Burrito Amor; the best damn burrito in the world. They are cheap AND they do homemade coconut tortillas which are GF!! Double high 5! We went back twice.

The real coconut; if you’re gluten free or love a healthy cafe this one is for you.

El Camello; the best ceviche restaurant but expect a line. In the main town.

El Capitan; seafood restaurant with all the local goods! Add it to the list. Also in the main town.

Vegan ice cream; there’s a vegan ice cream van on the main road to the beach from the town just before the turn off to Aldea Zama.

Ziggys Beach Club; We had lunch here again with toes in the sand. It was very nice. Mum and I both had a campari spritz with lunch and they even give you free corn chips and dips whilst you wait for the food. Nice setting for a New Years Day lunch.

Villa Pescadores Beach Club; This is down the north end of the beach near the ruins and is a really nice spot to perch for the day for beach swims and cocktails whilst you sunbake. There is beach massage tents up the beach and mum managed to get a good price for one if your interested.

Raw Love Cafe; divine smoothie bowl featuring a side of Gerard Butler. This place is raw heaven with some great celeb spotting. There is lots of famous people staying at Ahau because its ballllllerrrrrr….
