What a cool city. The city of two wheels and any hipsters dream. Make sure you look when crossing the road because I almost got run over by bikes at least 20 times.
We didn’t have long but we saw so much of the city and loved it. The canals are beyond stunning and walking around getting lost in the streets looking into people’s houses was a must. We landed late at night and left the following day at 3pm. It was jam packed so here is what we did;
Breakfast at Dignita Hoftuin – Great brekky, the zucchini and chickpea fritters with haloumi, avocado and poached eggs fuelled us for the morning. The granola also looked amazing and apparently the eggs royale on hash browns is something else.
Waterloopleinmarkt – flee market worth strolling by.
Red Light district – okay take what you want from this crazy little strip. I was astounded that there was women sitting in the windows at 11am in lingerie opening their legs.
Central Amsterdam – Really cool buildings along the Damrak canal.
Anne Frank House – If you don’t know the story about Anne Frank, she was a 13 year old girl who fled during Nazi Germany and hid with her family in a roof space of a building in Amsterdam. Whilst in hiding and fearing her life she wrote many letters about her fears and feelings. This was her house and there is a museum next door.
Juice Brothers – stop here and grab yourself a green juice or insane acai bowl! They were ace.
IAMsterdam sign – You have to be pushy and quick to get a pic of yourself climbing on the sign. I’m not sure why it’s so popular but if you’re into it, go get a quick pic.
Van Gough Museum – if you are into art this place is a must.
Stroll along the market on Albert Cuypstraat – During the day the vintage shops sprawl out onto the streets for a real bargain. You can also get fresh local produce from the fish mongers and fruit and vege stalls.
Coffee at Little Collins – time for a coffee and this Melbourne coffee shop is amazing. The food is great so if you’re hungry like we were, this place is worth a stop everyone recommended it to us.
Oosterpark – what a really cool park. Our hotel was conveniently located in this park so we got to experience it a couple of times. Have a stroll around and then grab a drink at the Arena Hotel Park cafe.
If we had more time I would have loved to have hired bikes and rode around and really soak up local life. Grab a beer and go and sit in the park or munch on a stroop waffle along the canals. If you aren’t up for walking or riding you can also get a canal boat tour.
